5 Reasons Why You Should Start A Side-Hustle While Being An Employee

1. Stable Salary

When it comes to starting a business, the biggest risk would be the lack of stable income at the initial stage of running a business. This normally breaks the thought of many to not take the risk of running a business.

Introducing... side-hustles!

Side-Hustles is similar to businesses, except that it is normally less labour & time intensive where you can run it on the side... duh!

The beaut of Side-hustles is that you can always do it on weekends or during free-time at night. Which means you don't have to quit your job to start it!

What's best is that while you build your side-hustles, you still get paid by your employer for your day job.

This means that you can have almost unlimited runway for your side-hustles; even if it doesn't take off. You can always try again while earning your salary from your day job.

But in the scenario where it takes off, you might be able to convert doing it full-time!

2. Passion

We know adulting is tough and it is not easy to get a job that is aligned with your passion. As such, many people would fall into the trap to chase after the salary just to survive in this society.

This is why I think side-hustles would be perfect.

If say your passion is in video production, why not start creating YouTube videos?

If say your passion is in sewing, why not start selling on an IG Store?

If say your passion is in....

The list can go on, but what I'm trying to say is that there is definitely a way to turn your passion into a hustle where you can monetize it.

In case you're thinking how you can do it, do leave a comment and I'll reach out with some tools to help you get started. (100% free, I just love sharing! Lol)

3. Personal Growth

Starting a side-hustle takes a lot of internalisation and self-reflection, more so than people would think. It would require one to find their purpose, or "Ikigai" as the Japanese coined it.

In this journey, I am very sure you would gain a lot of clarity about yourself, your passion, your strength, weaknesses and many other part of yourself that you didn't know.

You can then apply this learnings into other aspect of your life - Friendships, Relationships, etc.

4. Professional Growth

Naturally, running side-hustles would put you in the position of a business owner wearing multiple hats at the early stage. You'd find yourself in uncomfortable situations doing different things out of your core skillsets.

This is what I call growth, as you'd will gain broader and wider view on the business world, which would also help in your day job!

Imagine this - You're a Operation Executive working in an engineering company, but your true passion is in cooking. So you decided to start a side-hustle related to cooking.

You first start a Tik Tok account documenting all your cooking journey - Through all the trial & errors, you'll learn about the algorithm of Tik Tok. (Digital Marketing Skills)

You saw good traction on your videos and people now want to order your food, so you start an e-commerce form where people can place order. (E-commerce Skills)

And now return to your day job, where your boss ask for help to create a Tik Tok account, I'm sure you'll do well! Or when he ask to create an online order form, why not you do it?

What I am trying to say here is that by doing things you enjoy, you would definitely inadvertently learn something useful professionally that you can apply back to your day job.

This constant pursue for growth will put you in a cycle of self-development where you'll become exponentially stronger as an individual. And maybe instead of running the side-hustle full-time; you run your day job full-time instead, after gaining all the experience from it.

5. Conversation Starter

A side-hustle is a perfect conversation starter for many scenarios - At a primary school gathering, Christmas Parties, Networking Event, etc....

It's often motivating and interesting to talk about such projects with like-minded people and bounce off ideas and network.

Some times you might even realise a potential business partner is hiding in plain sight! So go get talking about this new side-hustle with your friends this holiday season!

I wish you all the best in your journey!
